As Japan is pursuing a more diverse and multicultural society, we must consider what it means to be diverse and multicultural. How can we welcome differences and pursue equality? It is not hard to notice that injustice probably results from our differences. It can be hurtful if we dig into issues like this carelessly. Therefore, before we discuss inequalities, we need to learn more about ourselves and understand how we can be different. We need to care for ourselves before tackling social issues.
In this course, we will spend some time talking about identities and empowerment, and we will apply these principles to others to help us understand different issues around us. At the end of the course, you will be able to see the causes and consequences of the issues and confidently share what you learn with others. We will include topics such as diversity, immigration, gender equality, etc. If you have any topics you are interested in, please bring them to class and discuss them with your classmates.
