Key Words: Community, Society, Everyday Life, Social Issues, Discussion, Critical Thinking
In this course, you explore social issues that exist in everyday community life. Instead of focusing only on big or distant problems, you look closely at familiar experiences, such as rules, communication, work, technology, and
support systems, and think about how they reflect wider social structures.
Each week, you discuss one topic through examples, short lectures, and group discussion. You will observe situations around you, reflect on what you notice, and share your ideas in English. You do not need advanced English skills. Clear ideas and active participation are more important than perfect accuracy.
Throughout the course, you gradually build a Community Portrait Project based on a community you belong to. By the end of the semester, you will give a final presentation that shows what you learned about how communities function and how social issues appear in daily life.
