This course aims to develop your critical viewing skills and deepen your awareness of global social issues through the analysis and discussion of short documentary films. We will watch films together in class that present people's stories from different parts of the world, examining the challenges communities face and how they work to overcome them.
This is an active, all-English, discussion course. The majority of class time will be spent watching films together, analyzing what we see, discussing important social issues, and reflecting in English. All activities, discussions, and assignments will be conducted in English. You will improve your English speaking, listening, and discussion skills through consistent practice discussing real-world issues in an all-English classroom.
I learned the importance of touching world problems and power of films in this class. Furthermore, I learned the importance of trying to tell my opinions. Telling my views in English is very difficult, but I was so happy when group members understood my opinions.
I enjoyed this class very much! I cannot speak English well and talking with people who I don’t know was difficult, but I learned sharing opinions and thinking deeply was very fun. I want to continue to think about the problems around the world and express myself.
